Tre' Neyhart is an 11 year old 85 rider from Arlington, TX. Tre' is the featured rider of this weeks, "Spotlight".
Hey Tre' how's it going?
It's going good, this is so cool.
First off, tell everyone about yourself, where your from, and how you got started in motocross.
Well my name is Tre' Neyhart, I'm 11 years old and I am from Arlington TX. I started riding when I was 3 years old, I got a brand new 2001 Suzuki JR 50 for Christmas. I used to love watching my dad ride and watching motocross on TV with my dad.
You got started really young in motocross and alot of kids don't start racing until thier teens. Do you feel that starting at such a young age gives you an advantage over riders that just started riding?
Yes and no. Yes because people that start out riding when they are older have to learn what I have already learned, and no because people who start out older understand the concepts and technique better than 3-5 year olds.
Lots of people have role models or heros that they look up to and admire. Is there someone you model yourself after?
Yes I do, Travis Pastrana. I would like to be like him, he is a genuine guy and just such a relaxed type of guy, plus he's fearless. I have met him two times, he's really cool.
Racing is as much a mental game as it is physical. Is there anything you do to get yourself in the zone when it's race time?
I really stretch alot before a race, I try to get my body as loose as possible so I can ride loose and relaxed. Also if I'm not one of the first classes up to race I like to watch other racers and study their lines on the track.
What kind of training do you do?
My dad tries to take me to the track every Thursday and Sunday. I also push myself to ride practice in race mode, and now that I'm on 85's I like to ride open practices with the big bikes to study and learn their lines.
Motocross is a pretty dangerous sport. Have you had any injuries?
Yeah ,none really serious though, thank God. When I was on 50's I got jumped on top of at Freestone, when I was on 65's I got ran over on the start at the first corner by Parker Flemming, it was just racing though, and now on the 85's about 2 months ago I got knocked out at Athens when my bike kicked left off the face of the big step up and I hit the top sideways and it slammed me to ground hard.
What are your plans for the rest of 2009 and beyond? Where would you like to be in a few years?
I will be doing the Texas champions race at Freestone and doing the Texas Winter Series. I would like to still be riding and racing motocross and learning everything I can, I want to get into the training program at Oakhill with Charley Bogard and Josh Demuth, and I would like to make it to LL and finish out top 10 hopefully.
Racing takes alot of time, but is there anything you like to do when your not racing or training?
I like to ride bikes and I want to play football next year too.
If you had to choose one moment in your motocross career so far, what would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment or proudest moment?
Getting 5th overall at the East vs. West shootout a couple of weeks ago.
What's your most embarrasing racing moment?
One time at Village Creek, I think I was on my 65 and I was leading the race and came over the finish line and I thought it was over and I had won, but when I seen my dad saying go, go, go I realized I pulled off the track with one lap to go still, so I got back out and still finished 3rd, I was so embarrassed, I was even fist pumping it when I came off the track.
Anyone you want to thank?
First I would like to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. My family, Dad, Mom, Sis, and little brother Travis for all their support. All my sponsors, SD Suspension, D&S Kawasaki/Honda, Decal Works and Sly Fox MX.
Thanks, and good luck!
Your welcome, and thanks for the interview.
